The central valleys of The Bumthang Region are a goal
for many touring visitors. This area is considered the
spriritual and cultural heart of Bhutan with it's many
important temples and monasteries. This complex is Kurje
Lhakhang or "the body imprint temple". The great
teacher, Padmasambhava (known locally as Guru Rimpoche
or Precious Teacher) meditated in a cave at this spot
in the 8th century. He left his body imprint in the rock
and a temple was eventually built over it. This site is
also important as the cremation site of the Kings of Bhutan.
